Nanaimo to Protection Island & The Dinghy Dock Pub:

The ferry is scheduled to leave Protection Island every hour on the hour. The ferry is scheduled to leave the Nanaimo side 10 minutes past every hour. The times for the first and last daily sailings are below. ** PLEASE NOTE: This is a foot-passenger ferry. We do not transport e-bikes and have very limited room for bicycles. **
Protection Island Ferry runs 365 days a year, weather permitting! Limited sailings on Christmas Day & New Year’s Day. As always, wind, weather, and other variables can cause delays/cancellations.
The ramp to access the Protection Island Ferry waiting room is located on the corner of Front Street and Promenade Drive in downtown Nanaimo. Upon arrival at the waiting room the Protection Island Ferry will load passengers headed for the Dinghy Dock Pub and Protection Island. Once fares are collected and safety announcements are made we will depart.

NoteFerry will shuttle for overflow situations. Times are approximate when busy. No dangerous goods on ferry. Fares & conditions subject to change without notice.
Accessibility: The ferry has very limited wheelchair accessibility. If the wheelchair can be folded, and the passenger can be assisted to board and again to disembark on the other side, then we are good to go.
Dogs: Only Service Guide Dogs are permitted at the Pub/Restaurant/Docks, but dogs in general are welcome on the ferry and on the island.
